Stephen Scourfield Biography

Stephen Scourfield is Travel Editor of The West Australian, writing and photographing internationally. Recent assignments have included travel in Africa, India, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. He has been judged Australia’s Best Travel Writer, National Travel Industry Awards 2009.
He has been Assistant Editor of West Australian Newspapers and, for the seven years, was Editor of The West Magazine. 
He has also been an occasional contributor to Good Weekend (The Age, Sydney Morning Herald), Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Canberra Times, Brisbane Courier Mail and other Australian metropolitan newspapers. 
He has also contributed to The Bulletin, Vogue Magazine and Scoop Magazine.
He qualified with the National Council for the Training of Journalists in the UK. By the age of 20, he was Chief Reporter of a London daily newspaper, and at 22 was Editor of newspapers for London and Essex Guardian group in North London. Throughout this period he also worked for Fleet Street newspapers, writing for UK national titles over a number of years. 
He has also worked for a wide range of magazines in the UK and Europe. His journalistic work from this period has been included in anthologies. 
He was recruited in London by West Australian Newspapers and moved to Western Australia in 1985. 
He has been Editorial Project Manager of The West Online, Features Production Editor, Deputy Features Editor, Outdoor Editor and Boating. He has been involved in The West Australian's Syndications Department. 
Throughout his career, he has continued his work as a writer and photographer.
